I bought our garage door opener almost 1.5 years ago, …so I guess it was time to install it.

If you are going to undertake this, be prepared to spend some time doing it – and/or a lot of beer too. It took me over 7 hours to install this thing, and I’m not completely done yet because I have to adjust the opener controls.

The “hardest” part of the installation is mounting and leveling the opener to the ceiling of your garage. If you have an exposed beam garage (ie: no drywall on the ceiling) then installing it will be much easier.

I had to buy an angle piece of metal bar, which was mounted first before going further. Then I attached the garage door motor to the metal bar.

Overall, I am glad I did it myself because I know it was done right. But I can completely see why people pay pros to install garage door openers, because it is a hassle.
